VERBAL STOP COMMAND
|

|
The "Stop" is
used when the dog receives the citronella spray. Without the
device, it will become a warning. In this case, the dog will
know that if he doesn't comply immediately, the ABS Anti-Barking
Collar will be put back on. Just as the "Good dog",
the "Stop" command identifies the exact moment of misbehaviour.
Eventually, he will cease his barking when you say "Stop",
even without the ABS Anti-Barking Collar.
Example: |
|
1- At exactly the same moment that
your dog starts barking and receives the citronella spray, say "Stop" in
a firm, calm voice. Each barking must be associated with the "Stop" command
and the citronella spray.
|
|
2- If he responds to your command say "Good
dog", followed by a reward of your choice (food, play, affection). |
|
3- Repeat this exercise several times
and increase time before rewarding gradually. A couple of seconds
may be added at each cycle before offering a reward. |
|
4- After a few days it's time to remove
the device in order to see what your dog has learned. Check his
behaviour without collar as soon as he stops barking on command
("Stop"). However, if he continues to bark, you'll have
to put back the device. |
|
5- As soon as your dog is able to wait
for quite some time, decrease the use of rewards! Offer a reward
every second time, then every third time and so on, until rewards
become optional. From now on, only sporadically reinforce correct
behaviour, i.e. no barking, with special rewards. These will help
you keep up your dog's motivation to be silent. |
|
6- By proceeding with
good dog and stop, your dog will stop at the sight of the device.
The training is
successful! You want to firmly establish the following association: "If
I bark when master says, "Stop", I'll have to wear the
collar". |
